秋田犬ってどんな犬？(AKITA Q&A)

正式名称は「あきたいぬ」 です。
外国では秋田犬を「Akita inu」または「Akita」 と呼び、「Akita Ken」 とは呼びません。

本当です。
昭和12年7月ごろにヘレンケラー女史が秋田に来られ、秋田犬を希望したことから、 秋田市の小笠原一郎氏（後の秋田犬保存副会長）が大館生まれの神風号を同年の8月に送りました。 しかし、残念ながらジステンバーで神風号は亡くなってしまいました。 その後も強く秋田犬を希望するヘレンケラー女史に、 神風号のお兄さん犬である犬剣山号が昭和14年7月に送られました。

八幡平の武家屋敷・渡辺家の裏山に桂の大樹があった。その根元の洞窟で戦後、 秋田犬の祖となった犬が誕生しました。
